This is not an easy read. The first section is narrated by a complete mental case. The reader unaware of this fact will be very confused by Faulkner's writing style.

In this book Faulkner makes Southern culture come alive and provides the reader with the scary realization of how horrible the pettiness of humankind really is. I don't see many people reading Faulkner anymore, but James Joyce and T.S. Eliot both read Faulkner and look where it got them...
